The magazine House Beautiful could never be said to be down-to-earth, but sometimes “heavenly” is a better accolade. When it comes to feeding our nesting urge with larger than life possibilities, and awakening our imaginations with new trends, classic old ideas, and more, House Beautiful fits the bill.  As in most home and garden magazines, the photography is fresh and elegant. Often even the advertisements contain great or just plain amusing decorating ideas, such as the star-and-moon painted staircase advertising Sherwin-Williams paints in past issue. Columns full of vibrant ideas and valuable information include “Style Beat,” “News,” which illustrated and discussed some contemporary Native American art that I’ll try to see, and “Scrapbook,” which featured clever ideas using paint (also in the same issue).

A Thoughts of Home” in a later issue tells of a woman’s need to move away from a historic, registered house because of divorce, and another talks of abandoned houses and their pull on the imagination. Every single one is a tribute to the editor of this feature, and never are emotions overwrought or cheap. Each story is honest, with true-life situations, and all beautifully written.

The July 2007 issue featured nine idea-filled kitchens, and an article on how to decorate using color with confidence, both of which I found helpful. My rooms may never look as elegant as House Beautiful’s, but they do an excellent job of showcasing fine traditional or avant-garde design and decorating ideas. You may not have their budget, but they’re not so far out of touch they you can’t emulate their ideas. For example, although I don’t have their wonderful assortment of picnic baskets to arrange as they did them in the Kitchen issue, their picture gave me an idea for arranging my own extensive basket collection in a simpler, homey way.

And it looks excellent, now, stacked with separators on a corner of their kitchen instead of piled here and there with no rhyme or reason.  House Beautiful seems to have recognized the cozier, homier look most Americans prefer, and are often including an almost country look in an occasional review. If you are trying to locate a current copy in a local public or school library, you may not have much difficulty. It is a common magazine in waiting rooms and reception areas because it is so univerally loved. We have no problem subscriptions through our magazine subscription service - whether it is for a new, renewal or even gift subscription - and it is no surprise. that’s all. Maybe it’s because we offer cheap discount prices or maybe it is just what it is.

In the new issue of Better Homes and Gardens, there is a really great article on how to decorate your home in a simplified matter.  I’m just really happy that my subscription started right when I was about to start redecorating my twenty-year old home!  One of the pointers that I was given in the newest issue (which, by the way, is also and always available online), is to decorate using white (which is a great way to avoid color decisions!).

We tried this in both of my children’s bedrooms and in the master bedroom and we are all happy as pie with the results.  I have never seen my wife happier with my antics thanks to my omniscient decision!

The newest issue of Better Homes and Gardens also advised my family that the color blue is one of the best bets to combine with white and that is exactly what we decided to do once we had the painters start questioning us as to what color plan is the best for the living room.  The inside porch that was just completed also has its own unique color and design.  We decided to go with more of an “autumn” outlook with the porch and, once it was completed, it gave me a sense of déjà vu – almost as if I had dreamt about the completion of it before it was finished.

The extra guest bedroom that we had installed on the third floor has leaf-print wallpaper throughout.  Even the bed sheets and bed cover have the same pattern and colors.  The dining room on the first floor was done exclusively in brown, silver and crystal.  I can’t wait for my younger brother and his family to visit so that they can check out how beautiful it turned out.  He was definitely one of the persons that influenced me in finishing up our house and for that I am honored!

As always, if you work for a company or a business and you want a magazine subscription service to consolidate all your subscriptions, give us a shout. we have a nice, clean online interface to manage all your new, renewal and gift subscriptions. it is a lot of fun writing these postings on home magazines because we get to cover related titles like Fine Homebuilding, yet another house improvement classic.

Ciao!

Better Homes & Garden magazine

Usually, Better Homes & Garden Magazine will give the reader home improvement advice, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the newest issue (which is also available online) has an amazing article on extremely delicious drinks for the summer that are also good for you. My favorite is the sparkling Red and Green Tea that leaves you nutritiously satisfied and is also a fantastic source of vitamins and protein for those really hot summer days.

My other favorite drink that’s featured on the online edition is the ever-satisfying Strawberry Iced Tea that tastes even better when unsweetened berries are added to the mix. Just imagine lounging in your backyard after a long day of re-tiling your kitchen floor and drinking this ever-amazing tasty liquid. You can just imagine the satisfaction coming at you, can’t you? I’m just glad that my subscription to this magazine started right on time for the summer!

My wife and older children have been helping me out with both ideas and constructive criticism when it comes to re-doing parts of the house. I usually reward my children with some delicious and alcohol-free Apricot-Mint Tea which is an all time favorite for them. My wife prefers the (also non-alcoholic) Cranberry-Ginseng Tea after she’s finished giving me more ideas on the window pane color or color of the drapes that we are putting in the dining room. I’ve covered great tips like this in other home magazine related postings like Fine Homebuilding.

When it’s really hot and I noticed that my family has been extra helpful in fixing up the house or redecorating certain areas of the living room/bedrooms, I give them an even more special extra treat – Anise Coffee and Ice Cream – which includes beautiful iceberg-like pieces of vanilla ice cream which melt incredibly when hot chocolate is poured into it. It’s the most devilish taste of all in my book! Better Homes and Garden magazine is a great addition to anyone’s library. Whether you want to put in your waiting room for patients, your reception area for clients or right in your living room on a coffee table, you can’t go wrong ordering a subscription. And of course, you saved off the newsstand price, so that can’t hurt either.

We’ve been talking about home magazines for the last week or so and I think we are almost done profiling the benefits of Fine Homebuilding Magazine. In case you’ve missed recent postings this is a home improvement and home construction periodical put out by that prolific publisher The Taunton Press. In some sense it is devoted to professional builders and contractors. Interestingly enough though it turns out that FHM (I can say this now that the American version of FHM is out of business), has become a sort of inspiration for homeowners.

Even if you are a first time homebuilder you will find that this editor packed periodical is filled with one of the most impressive collections of home improvement and design articles in the market. If you look in a local public or school library, you should easily be able to find a copy. Besides picking them up at a newsstand, it totally pays to save money and order a full one year, 8 issue subscription for only $37.95 through an online magazine subscription service. Sometimes if you look hard enough you can even find promotional coupons for $5.00 off a subscription which gives you even more savings.

We are pretty big fans of Taunton Press because they put out other magazines like Fine Gardening and Fine Woodworking. Fine Homebuilding though is still one of their finer magazines and if you are spending any time on your house, then you should try it out and see how you can benefit from their creative and impressive ideas that will help you finish a project in the most efficient time!

I was reading one of the newest blogs on the Fine Homebuilding Magazine website and was quite amazed regarding the completion of The Concept House. It took months of work, but it was well worth it. There were quite a lot of people that attended the special presentations and tours (which included college architectural students, the local green building council, inspectors, energy company employees and, of course, neighbors who are always curious about the “to-do” involved in this!).

Some of the visitors were amazed that they had installed recycled rugs (which are turned into brand new rugs that look just like new ones!) and were amazed at the quality of them, as well! One visitor really enjoyed the movable walls (just like the old film noir and horror movies) and it almost made us feel as if we were children as we continued exploring some of the least traveled areas in this house! I don’t doubt how surprised some of the visitors were that some of the materials within the house were recycled, but what really amazed them was the high quality of the recycled materials therein!

There were five different technologies that were used for the very first time in this house and they included some panelized foundations and floors; what some people call “the utility core concept,”; the incredibly systematized green building approach; some air admittance valves and the engineered plumbing and last, but not least some natural finishes were applied, including linoleum and clay. So much wonderful stuff that will be mentioned in the next couple of upcoming blogs, of course! All of this, of course, is due to reading and understanding Fine Homebuilding Magazine.

What else can I say? Stay tuned! And don’t forget you can join many other of our satisfied individual and corporate customers like businesses and public or school library subcsribers and order this and other home magazines like Architectural Record Magazine at great discount prices through our online magazine subscription service. In the newest issue of Fine Homebuilding Magazine, there is a fantastic article on improving water pressure in a newly built home (or even in a much older home, as well). The article explains the different methods involved in doing this, including adding a water softener and iron filter, but sometimes this can also decrease the water pressure. Sometimes the pipes in the house are old and corroded due to the accumulation of iron deposits within the pipes themselves.

I’m sure that there are a lot of businesses and corporations that would just love to order a subscription to this incredible magazine since it is one of the most highly sought after publications for those of you that love to fix the water pressure in either your new home or on the old home that you purchased. If you have a public library nearby or even a school library, even if you live in a rural area, magazines about home improvement and design like Architectural Record Magazine will still help you in fixing the water pressure problem in your household. Isn’t that a blast, gang? So, remember to order this amazing magazine through your favorite neighborhood magazine subscription agency. Trust me, it will leave you smiling!

There is also another article in the newest edition of Fine Homebuilding that explains in step-by-step instructions how to adjust a troublesome pressure switch and how to also install a booster pump that will help increase the water pressure at your home. I tried it myself and found out that it increased the water pressure in my home between fifty and seventy pounds (whereas before it was only between thirty and fifty pounds). Quite a dramatic change and it left me very pleased! It’s kind of strange to see the crossover with magazines like Popular Mechanics but it is to be expected.

If you are looking for a cheap discount subscription, the price currently through our magazine subscription service is just $43.00. Send us feedback if this blog posting helps you manage your home.

Has anyone in your area told you what an incredible publication that Fine Homebuilding Magazine is? It’s most definitely chock full of important articles and facts on building a new home or on redecorating or even re-constructing the present home that you live at! Even though a Subscription like Fine Homebuilding is set up for the professional, it is an invaluable tool for the novice and beginner that is ready , willing and able to work with wide-eyed speculation and hope. Only $37.95 for an eight issue, one year subscription sounds really great to me! Well, then you can order one year through this magazine subscription service website – www.magmall.com.

Inside Fine Homebuilding magazine are articles written at a level that nearly any do-it-yourselfer can comprehend. Sure enough, Taunton’s (the publishers of this great magazine) covers subjects too arcane for most homeowners (epoxy viscosities, building code complexities, arched dormers, and shingle thatch). Topics covered in Fine Homebuilding Magazine range from articles on architecture and design instructions to sections on how to fix up or actually build basements, bathrooms, decks and patios and many, many more. Are you going to order this magazine already? Huh? Oh, and by the way, businesses, schools and correctional facilities can order this magazine through this ever resourceful service.

Each issue of Fine Homebuilding Magazine contains in-depth evaluations of tools, techniques and materials, and covers everything from new home design to historic restoration. Various departments cover product reviews, builders’ tips, remodeling ideas, and answers to reader questions. Man, that sounds pretty damn good, doesn’t it? All you have to do is go to www.magmall.com and order Fine Homebuilding Magazine for only $37.95 (for a one year subscription!). If you really want to learn how to approach a project from multiple ways and you don’t want to “muddle it”, this magazine is for you!

If you have ever had a craving for performing construction jobs or just rebuilding part of your house or even building a new home altogether, then Fine Homebuilding Magazine should be part of your monthly reading study time. Being one of the finest magazines published in reference to the construction and architectural industries, Fine Homebuilding Magazine exceeds in leaps and bounds over similar publications!

As popular as home renovation is, there are remarkably few magazines around that adequately cover the subject. Fine Homebuilding Magazine is, in my opinion, one of the underdogs–and one of the best. Popular within the trade (all the articles are written by contractors but most are accessible by anyone reasonably handy), they take a very loving approach to each task they focus on. Fine Homebuilding avoids the jargon and has some great writers. Their articles come from professionals with real world situations such as how to properly vent a roof to the best way to layout a kitchen.

There is excellent coverage in the techniques of quality home building. Fine Homebuilding Magazine is about creating a unique home, with features that reflect your personality and meet your needs. Now, that may sound a little high-falutin’, but they succeed admirably. You will most likely save money when you order subscriptions for corporations, businesses, school libraries and correctional facilities through many magazine subscription services.

Throughout the different departments the writing is well done and excellent photographs illustrate what the article in Fine Homebuilding Magazine is talking about. The stories run the gamut of homebuilding topics. Some recent stories include how to use primer when painting, all about glass tile, energy efficiency in homes and different fireplace mantels, etc. You can order a one year, eight issue subscription to Fine Homebuilding Magazine for the low price of $37.95 through our wonderful magazine subscription service (www.magmall.com) and be prepared to be enthused about building a new home or addition to a home!

Here’s what we dream someone would write about us one day: “I just came across the most amazing magazine subscription website ever!  Just go to www.magmall.com and you can order one of the most innovative and creatively amazing magazines being printed in the modern era  – Architectural Record Magazine!” Why does this idea make me so excited? Ah, the question is most definitely answered by going to that webpage I just mentioned!  Are you there yet?  Good! ?  Now you see how cheap a one year subscription to Architectural Record Magazine is (hint: it’s $43 for a one year, twelve issue subscription!).

Well it is nice living in fantasy land but it doesn’t really ever happen that way does it. But what does happen is good deals on magazines. Architectural Record Magazine for example can be ordered as a corporate subscription or as a business subscription (if you work at a company, of course, that allows you to receive this fantastic magazine!).  Even school library and correctional facilities can order subscriptions to stock up on this incredible publication.  I’m almost out of breath from trying to convince you people how simply incredible Architectural Record Magazine is!

There aren’t too many magazine subscription services that can do what MagMall can do with fulfilling subscriptions for top notch magazines such as Architectural Record Magazine (am I already mentioning it again?).  Sorry, I can’t help myself!  As I said before, all schools, correctional facilities, corporations and businesses can order this artistically ahead-of-it’s-time publication.

Each issue of Architectural Record brings you comprehensive coverage of a variety of projects from around the world. Record’s project profiles inform and inspire with powerful photography, architectural drawings, revealing insights from architects and clients, related building science and digital technology coverage, and key people and products.  Isn’t that enough for you to want to order Architectural Record Magazine for at least a one year subscription?  Once again, you can hit up our website for cheap discounts and some further insight into one of the most awe-inspiring architectural publications on the face of the planet!

If architecture is only your hobby, Architectural Record Magazine might be too much for you. At least we as a magazine subscription service are not making our entire living with it and do not have to know everything about it. Chances are that only a small part of the content in each issue might interest you. Nevertheless, Architectural Record Magazine is a good and serious architecture journal. So the key question is not whether to read it or not, but how to read it wisely or read which issue(s).

We have a lot of corporate magazine subscribers and we even sell subscriptions to a bunch of school and public libraries so we don’t really have a handle on who subscribes or who reads it but we do have a good cross section of readers.

Architectural Record Magazine displays great photography including very exotic and intriguing designs. Reading this magazine is very enjoyable because of its easy layout, and of course because of what it contains. Architectural Record Magazine is truly worth giving 5 stars. My personal favorite architect of all times must be Frank Lloyd Wright. To know that he wrote in this magazine is so truly encouraging to me.

Fortunately, several clues can provide us with good suggestions. Each issue of Architectural Record Magazine has a special section called “Building Type Study” which focuses on one type of building (such as library, museum, bridge, office building, etc.). You can choose the right issues by skimming through  this section. Moreover, each year Architectural Record Magazine has a special issue called “Record Houses” featuring about ten residential projects carefully selected around the world.  If you are into residential architecture, you don’t want to miss them.

Unless you are a hardcore architecture fan and would like to know all about it, amateurs like me can choose the right issues to read and get the information I need. I think this is the right or smart strategy to take advantage of this quality magazine.

You can order Architectural Record Magazine, one of the most innovative and fantastic architectural magazines ever created, through MagMall for the low price of $43 for a one year subscription.  Not bad, huh?
