Moderate or strong acne breakouts leave behind facial scars and are associated to a volcano-type appearance. This formation also erupts; much like a volcano does, and creates craters that are the consequence of a process that takes place within the skin pores where sebaceous glands reside.

If you were to look deep within a skin pore you'd see glands that produce a particular type of oil, called sebum. Sebum is made to lubricate the skin and to protect it from external harmful pathogens and elements. It also helps prevent moisture from evaporating. The problem, however, arises when the overproduction or hardening of sebum obstructs the pores and sebaceous glands. These are the first indicators of a possible acne breakout.

The blocked flow of sebum to the surface of the skin will soon lead to the damage of the cells lining the sebum canals and trigger an excessive reproduction of bacteria. In these cases, a biological acne solution is recommended.

Two problems can arise from an uncontrolled production of bacteria:

* breakdown of rich sebum

* infection that may spread to bordering cellular structures
