Natural Remedies for Acne Scars

by Candice Zubcic

The search for natural methods to combat acne scars and other marks left by acne has become popular. Fortunately, there are several home remedies that have proven effective in reducing acne scars.

The silver lining behind home remedies for acne blemishes is the low cost because most of the ingredients are readily available in your home. There are two downsides to natural home remedies, though: the effects may take longer to notice and they might vary greatly from one person to the next. But patience, in this case, is a virtue.

How to Remove Scars with Natural Remedies

Before using any acne scars treatment, wash the area with plenty of warm water and always test out the product on a small area of skin to make sure that it does not produce irritation or an allergic reaction. Those people who have sensitive skin can always add a small amount of water to produce a diluted, more gentle version of the original product.

Garlic

Garlic is on of those wonder foods that seems to be good for all kinds of ailments. It has also been used in the treatment of acne scars and marks left by pimples. Since garlic can produce a stinging sensation, make sure to rinse it off immediately if it starts burning.

For this home remedy, finely grate a clove of garlic and mix with two tablespoons of water. Massage the paste directly to the effected area. The garlic exfoliates the skin and removes a layer of scar tissue, so don't let it set for more than 5 minutes.

Never forget to apply aloe vera directly to the treated area after you have washed off the garlic paste. Aloe vera will rehydrate your skin and protect it without causing further irritation.

Honey and Coconut Oil

Honey and coconut oil are other possible home remedies for acne scars.

Honey is known to kill bacteria that lead to acne. Apply it to your skin several times a day, and it will give your skin a natural glow while removing your scars. Keep the honey on the affected area for about ten minutes and then rinse off.

You can also use coconut oil to help lighten old scars. Massage the affected area with oil to reap its benefits.

Lemons

The bleaching properties of lemons will also help lighten scars. Meanwhile its high citric acid content will help clean and rejuvenate your skin.

Simply use one tablespoon of juice and apply it directly to the scar with a cotton ball. Leave the product on your face for a maximum of 10 minutes before you rinse it off. Be vigilant about using sunscreen if you choose this home remedy, because lemon juice makes your skin more sensitive to the sun's rays.

It always pays to use fresh natural products instead of the canned versions. Their canned versions contain preservatives and additives that might be harmful to your skin or might inhibit the full effect of the natural components.

Fortunately, natural home remedies are a good, inexpensive way to deal with acne and the scars it produces. Keep in mind that any acne scar treatment will produce varying results in different individuals. Be patient and you will see how these and other home remedies assist in your skin repair.
