Treat Stretch Marks the Natural Way

by Gabriell Rygh

Stretch marks are an unfortunate fact of life. Even if you have never been pregnant or have gained a large amount of weight in a short period, chances are that growth spurts in your adolescence have led to stretch marks. Since stretch marks are common among the population in general, there are a great deal of treatments for them.

In this article we will take a look at some of the natural home remedy treatments that have been used for years to reduce the appearance of stretch marks. Don't forget that a cream or lotion cannot eliminate stretch marks and that a natural treatment will generally take longer to produce the desired effects.

Most homemade treatments have been used for years. And though they are slightly different, they have one thing in common: they depend on an exfoliating and moisturizing medium. The exfoliant can be used before moisturizing or it can be incorporated into the natural, moisturizing lotion.

We will take a look at some of these natural scar lotions in the following text.

Home remedies are the most inexpensive way to eliminate or reduce the appearance of stretch marks. Natural oils and gels, like rose hip oil, lavender oil, flaxseed oil, olive oil or cod liver oil and aloe vera gel, can be massaged directly on the affected area to reduce the appearance of stretch marks. More elaborate homemade lotions can be produced using these ingredients plus other natural products.

Home Remedies to Consider

For example, mix together:

*1/2 cup olive oil

*1/4 cup aloe vera gel

*4 capsules Vitamin E (remove liquid and discard casing)

*2 capsules Vitamin A liquid

And store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Apply this mixture to your stretch marks every day. This mix is a moisturizer, so it will be necessary to exfoliate before applying it to your skin.

Another alternative is the following balm. Natural exfoliants, like ground coffee beans or oatmeal, can also be added.

*1/2 cup cocoa butter

*1 Tablespoon wheat germ oil

*1 Teaspoon apricot kernel oil

*1 Teaspoon Vitamin E oil

*2 Teaspoon grated beeswax

Heat the ingredients until the beeswax is softened. Then, store it in an airtight container in a cold, dry place. Apply this product on the affected area until you achieve the desired results.

Each one of these alternatives is a valid choice depending on your budget and extent of your stretch marks. Be patient, however; most of these natural treatments will take three to five months before you see positive results.

As you can see there is a large variety of options for natural scar treatment. Any of them can help remove stretch marks in a gentle, natural way. To help stretch marks prevention we do advise a healthy diet and a regular exercise routine.
