Acne Vulgaris is an inflammatory skin condition that affects the face, neck, chest, and back. Usually most people think of acne as a condition that affects adolescents only, but in fact is can be very prevalent in adults, especially the more severe forms of acne. It can be physically as well as psychologically damaging.

Acne includes many types of blemishes. The most common are blackheads and whiteheads on your face and neck. However, the more serious cases of acne consist of very large, painful blemishes that are very damaging. In some cases, treating severe acne is very difficult. Severe acne vulgaris includes conditions such as Pyoderma Faciale, Gram-negative Folliculitis, Acne Fulminans, and Acne Conglobata.

Severe Acne Vulgaris

First of all, there's Pyoderma Faciale. Usually found in women, this acne can arise quickly, and is even common in people who have never had acne before. It is only on the face, and can resemble severe rosacea, and is also sometimes referred to as rosacea fulminans. It is usually only present for up to a year, but it can have severe and dramatic results in a short time. With that in mind, it's important to treat the acne appropriately.

A second type of acne is Gram-negative folliculitis, which is a rare acne inflammation caused by a bacterial infection. The infection can be caused by long-term use of antibiotics. It is most commonly seen in patients who use antibiotics to treat severe acne. Since antibiotics can be the cause of gram-negative folliculitis, it can be difficult to treat.

Another type of acne vulgaris is Acne Fulminans. It can also cause nodules, as well as whiteheads. This acne is unique because it can be accompanied by fever and/or joint pain. You must be aggressive by using an acne treatment cream to get rid of this type of acne.

The most severe form of acne is called Acne Conglobata. It is differentiated because of its deep, sometimes painful nodules under the skin. When the nodules under the skin connect, they form larger nodules. Acne Conglobata can cause permanent scar tissue, and can be hard to treat effectively. In order to reduce scarring and treat Acne Conglobata, aggressive acne scar treatment is necessary.
