Odor Control Idea

by Fred Wild

One of the hardest challenges facing cat owners is the smell of the litter box. Odor control is a definite must. Cats are very clean animals, but they are also territorial creatures. An example of this is that they instinctively choose the same spot to bury their waste. While this helps in keeping all of their litter in the box, it requires the owner to be vigilant in cleaning their waste container frequently.

Ammonia and cat feces are two very strong odors. It is important to make sure that proper odor control is in place to reduce or eliminate the odors. Cat urine contains ammonia and in high concentrations it could be toxic to you and your pet. It is very important that the litter box be kept clean.

The first step is ensuring there are enough litter boxes. It is recommended by experts that there be one litter box per cat plus an extra litter box. Not only does this reduce overuse of a single litter box, it always keeps multiple cats content. Place the litter box in a location that has good ventilation. The litter box should be placed away from high traffic areas as well.

Your cat's litter box should be cleaned often to maintain odor control. Odor removal litter can help with this, but the box should be cleaned at least once a day. Litter that is scoopable is the most convenient to use and makes cleaning an easy job.

The most important thing you can do to control litter box odor is to use odor removal litter. This type of litter is important as the smells of the waste and ammonia will be removed by chemicals inside the litter. A regimen of cleaning the box regularly (at least once a day) is also important. Using a box with air filters is also helpful, but remember that the filters need to be replaced from time to time.

There are several types of air fresheners that can help with odor control where litter boxes are kept. Wall-plug dispensers are a good choice. Scented candles or spray air fresheners also work well. Any of these can help remove the smell from your home.

Odor control is important to keeping you and your pet cats happy and healthy. There are many different ways to control odors. You must have enough cat boxes if you have more than one cat. You must place your litter box somewhere where the smell will not be a problem, and you must clean it regularly. You can use odor removal litter which uses chemicals to remove smell kitty litter. You can use cat box filters to clean the air around your litter box, and there are many kinds of air fresheners.
