Write Love Letters Worth Keeping

by Ron Thomson

How to write romantic love letters, a skill or perhaps art, is something that is at risk of disappearing. In the high tech world of today there are many people choosing to communicate only electronically, and while there is time taken occasionally to write romantic emails, these may not survive computers crashing or hard drive restoration.

Historians are ever grateful that in times gone by it was common practice to write love letters to the object of ones affection. This is how we have learned much about the day to day life of real people in the past, as love notes are often a cherished possession, kept for years, even perhaps after the love is gone, the letters remain.

When you begin to write love letters, it is good to keep in mind that you should use good quality paper and envelops, and a pen that will not fade or smudge. Remember that your letters should stand up to being folded, unfolded and reread throughout the years.

There is great value in the spontaneous love note scribbled on a scrap of paper or the back of a napkin, even though such fly decorations of love may not last forever, but these are expressions of joy of the moment and your loved one will surely know that you were thinking of them at inconvenient times also and all that you could find was a napkin or a scap of paper. Not to forget the classic, lipstick on a mirror.

When you write love letters, take your own time as the time it takes is as much precious gift as the note or the sentiments it conveys. You should be specific mentioning things your love may not realize that you have noticed, like the way he talks, or the way she touches her hair. Visualize each sentence over in yur mind before putting it on the paper.

If you are lucky enough to be the recipient of love letters, you should keep them, and keep them safely. If the love that you have doesn't remain, keep the letters safely tucked away regardless. It will be nice to look at them twenty years down the road with a healed heart.

A well written letter of love will be kept for many years, perhaps decades or longer, and may be passed on as a family heirloom. Perhaps more important, they can bring joy in to your love life right now, and in today's fast paced world, love letters can be an unexpected gift.

People used to write love letters often in the past, which helped historians learn about life in the earlier times. To write romantic love letters is a skill that is at risk of vanishing in today's technological world, though one can write romantic emails. Even a spontaneous message scribbled on a note or written with lipstick on the mirror does convey your feelings to your beloved. If the traditional method is followed, good quality paper and ink will help your love letters survive being reread for many years. A good love letter should express your sentiments and appreciation of the little things your partner does that your find attractive.
