Tips on Using McCalls Sewing Patterns
Pretty much every seamstress loves McCalls Sewing Patterns. They can be used to make almost anything ranging from a Halloween costume to that perfect prom dress for your daughter. If you are new to sewing or even if you have been sewing for a while, here are some easy tips that you can use to make the most out of your McCalls sewing patterns.
1. When you are looking for a project, you can browse through a McCalls pattern book. You can always pick this up at your local craft store or even online. Find a project that is marked 'beginner' or 'easy.' Some of the McCalls sewing patterns for experienced individuals can feel like you're reading another language. The easier patterns are fairly simple for someone to teach themselves to follow.
2. To decide how much fabric you will need, first you will need to choose a sewing fabric that you would like to make the project out of. When you have a good fabric picked out, you need to check how wide it is. If you cannot figure it out, make sure to ask someone who can like an employee. Every McCalls pattern has a guide in it that will tell you how many yards of the fabric you will need depending on the width.
3. When you cut out the fabric for your McCalls sewing patterns make sure you also cut out those little triangles too. Those were put there for the purpose of helping you line the pieces up later on when you are sewing them together.
4. If you look closely at your sewing pattern you will see that sometimes there are three or four lines that merge together into one line. Continue cutting along this one line until the sizes branch back out into individual lines. Then follow the pattern for your size again.
