1. When you are looking for a project, you can browse through a McCalls pattern book. You can always pick this up at your local craft store or even online. Find a project that is marked 'beginner' or 'easy.' Some of the McCalls sewing patterns for experienced individuals can feel like you're reading another language. The easier patterns are fairly simple for someone to teach themselves to follow.

2. To decide how much fabric you will need, first you will need to choose a sewing fabric that you would like to make the project out of. When you have a good fabric picked out, you need to check how wide it is. If you cannot figure it out, make sure to ask someone who can like an employee.
